Children's Trust Fund Advisory Council
Function: Recommends strategies to promote education, programs, and services that support parents and families and thereby prevent child abuse and neglect; makes recommendations regarding grants to be awarded to fund child maltreatment prevention programs. The Children's Trust Fund Advisory Council provides funding from the Children's Trust Fund which was established in 1986 (1986 Minn. Laws Chap. 423 was the "children's trust fund for the prevention of child abuse act.") . The fund provides money for programs and services throughout the state that help strengthen and support families in order to prevent child maltreatment.
19 members (10 members appointed by governor who have demonstrated knowledge in the area of child abuse and represent the demographic and geographic composition of the state, local government, parents, racial and ethnic minority communities, religious community, professionals, and volunteers; the commissioners of human services, health, education, corrections, and public safety each appoint 1 member; the legislature appoints 2 senators and 2 representatives, each with 1 member from both caucuses); per diem and expenses.
